An old time friend just got back from Kunming, China for officials recently....... and he bought me this gift. From the packaging...it looks like a book? A box of cigars?? Interesting VCDs from China??
No...no...no....if you read it carefully.... it suggested something "edible". Yeah, something when you open up the cover you can find some food stuff in it......by reading the front and back cover of the packaging....the way they packed and sell the idea of the gift supposedly to be the 18 selected premium food items from Yun Nam that ties to the 18 extinguish Yun Nam cultures..... also with a stamp that says: 1999 Kunming World Agriculture Arts Exhibition...designated "Premium Product".
So, I was really excited and expecting something really "premium"..... finally, here you go....jeng....jeng...jeng...jeng......surprise!....surprise!....surprise!
Are you surprised??? Frankly, I am and......no further comments. What do we have here? 18 small "plastics" packaging of differnet food items.
Looks like Kerepek Sotong.....
Kerepek Ubi......
Kerepek Pisang.....
Some kind of herbal sweets....
Jeruk buah-buahan (Pickled/Preserved fruits).....
Uncang Teh (Tea bags) .....
...and some unknown Food Items.....
Frankly, I don't have the courage to try them as I have no idea how it was prepared or processed....especially food stuff from China. In the end I just left them in the office pantry and see if there are any takers...
Ok...this entry is by no mean condemning a gift from a good friend....the point I wanted to bring up here is that how far really the product packaging, branding, marketing can really go and fool the consumers! So, to my friend....please don't get angry if you happen to read this entry. I do appreciate your thoughts..... :)
