Mid Autumn Festival....

Today marks the celebration of Mid-Autumn (Chung Chiu) Festival or more commonly known as Mooncake Festival, Tanglung festival...

The mid autumn festival is the third major festival of the Chinese calendar observed by the Chinese for generations, is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month. There are many versions of believes and stories tied to the festival...It is also known as the Moon Cake Festival because a special kind of sweet cake (yueh ping) prepared in the shape of the moon and filled with sesame seeds, ground lotus seeds and duck eggs is served as a traditional Chung Chiu delicacy.

Also, 15th day of the eighth month...which is pronounced as "Pat Yuet Sap Hm" in cantonese also referred to "buttock"....so many generations latter may be it would referred as "Luo Yau" festival....hahaha.....not so nice but then we would have a special festival to celebrate the buttock!....larikk kuat kuat....wakakakaka.

Friends knowing me knows that I am a moon cakes lover.....probably before the actual day of celebration....I would have finished 3-4 boxes (4 in each) as my own consumption!!! This year not that bad also lorr....3 boxes gone!!!....leaving one for tonite. Friends said I am crazy!!

Why I like moon cakes??? Every year moon cakes bakers (hotels, bakeries, chinese restaurants) would come out with new flavours and packaging (of course they make you pay for it!!)...and now most of them are Halal too....
2Pcs Packaging from Baker's Cottage:
4Pcs Pakaging from Baker's Cottage also....they even have hamper version! Too much la.

One of the 4Pcs packaging from Sixth Happiness...

The one left for the actual day....is from Eastin Hotel....1st time buying moon cakes from any hotel...but this one was highly recommended by my colleagues....also got corporate discount lor...hehehee....else I would not even try as it is RM15/pcs....RM60++ per box!!! Now you see where the proportion you paid for a box of moon cakes went to... it came with a packet of chinese tea... you can stack up the boxes and make it a DIY drawers!

Green Tea Lemon:

Green Tea n Milk: (guess the taste should be somewhat the green tea latte at starbucks)

Chocolate Cream Cheese:
German Black Forest:
It would not be nice/complete without a pot of your favorite tea..... :)

Only 3 boxes this year .. hmmm ... getting old liao ...hahahahaa.

For me, I shared half a mooncake (not half box ah) with my mom and that's it for this year.

Yes, mooncakes are very very expensive this year. More so for those sold by the hotels. My favourite is the durian snow skin from Mandarin Oriental cost more than Rm80 for 8 tiny tiny pieces .. so this year I did not buy lah.
